Directional Sighting
 |
There are two types of compass systems:
1. Directional: The compass is simply aimed at an object or direction. Bearing is read at the azimuth ring closest to the object being sighted.
2. Prismatic: Magnetic needle alignment and azimuth ring are read in the mirror, while the object or direction is sighted.

According to the Brunton experts, sighting a bearing or aiming the compass at an object really differ from one compass to another.
Accuracy increases when the object being sighted, magnetic needle and the azimuth ring can all be read at the same time. i.e.. prismatic sighting.
